What's up with America? Yada Yada Yada
Piercing Light
Of God's Word
When we speak about the state of America, we often talk about the economy, our political divisions, or our cultural fractures. But there is another reality—one that is happening in clinics, living rooms, and hearts across our land—that demands our deepest moral reflection. We live in a society wrestling with profound brokenness, and nowhere is that brokenness more visible than in how we protect, or fail to protect, the most vulnerable among us.
Today, let us look not just with political eyes, but with spiritual ones, at the staggering reality of abortion in America. It is easy to treat numbers as mere statistics, detached from humanity. But behind every digit is a life, a story, a mother, and a soul. Let us look at what recent data from public health agencies and research institutions like the Guttmacher Institute and the CDC reveal about the state of our nation. Recent nationwide estimates show that approximately 1,126,000 clinician-provided abortions take place across the United States each year. This amounts to roughly 16.7 abortions for every 1,000 women of reproductive age.
Data shows that a significant majority of those seeking care—roughly 41%—are living with incomes below the federal poverty level, with many more just one crisis away from financial ruin. Over half already have at least one child, reflecting the crushing weight of economic pressure, isolation, and lack of support. The landscape is changing rapidly, with a growing reliance on medication and telehealth, meaning the silent struggle is happening more and more behind closed doors. When we hear these numbers, our human impulse is often reactive. We point fingers, take sides, and retreat into our ideological corners. But a faithful response cannot stop at condemnation.
True pro-life conviction cannot end at birth, nor can it thrive in judgment. It requires a radical, relentless commitment to surrounding families with love, resources, healthcare, childcare, and spiritual community so that no mother ever feels her only choice is despair. Healing begins when you stop hiding the pain and honestly confess your burdens to a loving God who listens and draws near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). When a nation abandons the knowledge of God, the breakdown reaches every corner of human life, affecting relationships, morality, and inner character.
Paul outlines a vivid catalogue of what happens when a mind becomes debased: ” 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. (Romans 1:26-27)
If we honestly open our eyes to what is happening right now, today, this very minute in this country we see the signs that God’s Wrath is being poured out. The blind do not see it, the deaf cannot hear it and the dead do not care about it. “ And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—”(Ephesians 2:1-2). I want to scream out, there is a solution, look, there is a solution: “ 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”(Ephesians 2:4-6).
Sometime around 67 AD the Emperor Nero had a boy named Sporus castrated because the boy bore a striking resemblance to Nero’s late second wife, Poppaea Sabina, who had died under violent or uncertain circumstances.
"Sporus" comes from a Greek word meaning "seed" or "sore," which was likely a cruel nickname given to him by Nero. Nero also forced people to call the boy "Poppaea". Nero dressed Sporus in the formal attire of a Roman empress, held a public wedding ceremony, and treated him as his legal wife. After Nero died in 68 AD, Sporus was passed between several political figures and successor emperors. He ultimately died by suicide around 69 AD at roughly 20 years old to avoid being publicly humiliated in a theatrical reenactment.
In this nation today statistics show that while overall lifetime suicide attempt rates among transgender young adults remain high averaging one out of every two. Data regarding specific outcomes after gender-affirming surgery present a complex picture of long-term risks alongside reported mental health issues. Up to 81% to 86% of transgender youth and adults report experiencing serious thoughts of suicide during their lifetimes. So basically 8 out of 10 think about suicide and 5 out of 10 actually commit suicide. Another disturbing trend in the land of the free and home of the brave.
Data from organizations like Gallup shows that the statistical rise in LGBTQ+ identification is largely propelled by younger individuals—especially young women—identifying as bisexual or sexually fluid rather than an increase in exclusive same-sex attraction. The visibility and understanding of homosexuality in men have increased significantly in recent decades due to shifts in social acceptance, legal protections, and scientific research. Modern scientific and psychological consensus views homosexuality as a natural variation of human sexuality. ” 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:26-27).
Same-sex marriage became legal nationwide in 2015 following the Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. Protected under the First Amendment, allowing public school students and citizens to discuss LGBTQ+ topics and take part in public demonstrations. It seems to never change because if we look, if we truly look at the Bible, we will see the same thing happening around 4000 years ago.
Can you picture it in your mind? I can’t because I don’t think we have the capacity to truly understand what life was like 4000 years ago. Don’t get me started on that or we will never get out of here.
Lets get back to Sodom and Gomorrah, it appears one evening Lot was relaxing at the gate of Sodom when two Angels came up and caused Lot to fall on his face to the ground. It appears that Lot invited them over, but they were thinking about staying in the town square. Lot knowing the state of the spiritual debauchery that permeated the air, convinced them to come to his house. He cooked a big dinner and baked fresh unleavened bread. Around midnight a large mob of Sodomites surrounded Lot's house and wanted the two Angels to come out. The Bible says these men said they wanted to know these two “men”.
There is some controversy about this word “know” and what it actually means. But if we look at this picture logically or mathematically we come to the same conclusion. In Greek the word “know” is “syngenōmetha” and the Hebrew word is “Yada”. “Syngenōmetha” means to come together with or have relations with, "be intimate with". In the Bible, yada describes a profound, close relationship—including deep emotional bonds or even marital and sexual intimacy (such as in Genesis 4:1, when Adam "knew" Eve).
So maybe we could look at it like this: There is a large mob of Sodomites, from Sodom, outside saying “Yada”, “Yada”," Yada", this paints a very vivid picture of what these Sodomites wanted to do. The word "sodomy" comes from the name of the ancient biblical city of Sodom. To sum this fascinating piece of history up, the Angels struck these men with blindness and they warned Lot to get out. “ 15 As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.” 16 But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.”(Genesis 19:15-16).
Unfortunately, Lot's wife looked back when the Lord reigned fire and brimstone down from heaven. “23 The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. 24 Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the LORD out of heaven. 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. 26 But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”(Genesis 19:23-26).
Have you ever wondered about what Lot's wife was looking back at? Maybe it was her cell phone. Maybe it was her washer and dryer. Regardless of what it was, the message to me is keep your eyes on the right thing. Proverbs 4:25 says “Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” Speaking of our eyes, this period in history should open all of our eyes to what God’s wrath looked like prior to the miracle of grace through Jesus Christ.
Since the appearance of God in the Flesh, the greatest gift of all, Grace also appeared through Christ Jesus. “17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) It is easy to see the influence this lowly carpenter Jesus, Yeshua in Hebrew, which means Yahweh is salvation, has had on our world. The times before Christ were dealt with much differently than they are now. There is abundantly more grace in the world now, at least maybe the Sodomites might see it that way.
But God is not mocked and Paul is spelling it out in Romans Chapter 1. Since the incarnation of Christ, the wrath of God according to the Apostle Paul looks differently than what the Sodomites experienced. God's wrath is still very real, but now it is harder for the blind to see, or the deaf to hear, or the dead to realize. “ 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”(2 Cor. 4:3-4).
Then there are the righteous the Apostle Paul refers to. Who are these righteous folk? “ 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith,[e] as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)
Paul’s message in Romans 1 and 2 Corinthians 4 highlights a fundamental truth: while God’s wrath today may operate through spiritual blindness rather than immediate physical judgment, His gospel remains the ultimate power for salvation to all who believe.
Christ Jesus, though spiritual blindness surrounds us, Your atoning blood brings life-changing grace and Your gospel remains our saving power. You gave up so much for us, you drank from that cup, the sins of the World, and you suffered on the Cross to pay for those sins, May we forever Praise You, Amen.
